Introduction
Google during its keynote at Google I/O 2024 unveiled some exciting new features for Gmail on Android and iOS. Among these updates are the introduction of more Gemini AI to enhance the functionality of Gmail and make it smarter.

Summarize feature for Gmail
One of the new features announced is the ‘Summarize’ option, which will be located under the subject line at the top of your screen. This feature will provide a summary of longer email threads, making it easier for users to grasp the main points of a conversation. It is important to note that this feature will initially be available only to Workspace Labs users this week, with Google One AI Premium subscribers and paying Gemini for Workspace customers gaining access next month.

Gmail Q&A feature
In addition to the ‘Summarize’ feature, Google is introducing the Gmail Q&A icon, which will appear in the top-right corner of your inbox. This feature will allow users to ask questions such as comparing recent roof repair bids or finding discussion questions for their book club meetings. The feature is set to roll out to Workspace Labs users in July, with no specific timeline provided for other users.

Contextual Smart Replies with Gemini AI
Google also announced the introduction of Contextual Smart Replies, which will provide more customized and detailed suggestions based on the content of your emails. With the help of Gemini AI, Gmail will offer suggestions in a carousel format below the text you are writing. Users will be able to select actions such as “Proceed & confirm time” or “suggest new time” for time-sensitive emails. This feature is set to launch for Workspace Labs users on mobile and web in July.

Conclusion
Overall, Google’s enhancements to Gmail with the integration of more Gemini AI aim to make the email platform smarter and more user-friendly. These new features will provide users with additional tools to manage their email communications effectively and efficiently.
