Google Pixel : nouvelles fonctionnalités cachées pour préserver la batterie
Google Pixel now has battery charging limit and bypass feature
A few days ago, Google released the December Pixel Drop with new Gemini features for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series smartphones. One of the new features that was not mentioned in the announcement is the option to limit battery charge to 80% to extend its lifespan. In addition to that, there is another extra feature included in the update.
Bypass Charging
The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series now support bypass charging, which allows the phone to be powered directly from an external source, such as a wall adapter or a power bank. To enable this feature, users need to toggle the 80% charge limit in the Settings > Battery menu. Once the battery reaches 80%, it will neither charge nor discharge.
Enabling the battery charge limit and bypass
To confirm that the feature is working, users can check the battery status using an app, which should show the battery as “not charging” and the power source as “AC” (wall power).
It is important to note that the phone may occasionally charge the battery to 100% and discharge it back to 80% as part of the calibration process to ensure accurate battery level readings.
While Google has not provided any information on the specific charger requirements for the bypass feature to work, other brands have implemented similar features. For example, Samsung refers to it as “Pause USB Power” and requires a USB Power Delivery charger with PPS and a minimum rating of 25W.
