Preview of iOS 18.4: New Features and Improvements

iOS 18.4 is set to be released in early April, with developers getting early access through the iOS 18.4 Release Candidate (RC) as of today. The RC comes with a build number 22E239 and is considered the final step before the wide rollout.

Priority Notifications and Apple Intelligence Expansion

iOS 18.4 introduces Priority Notifications, where AI technology will identify important notifications and display them in a dedicated section on the lock screen. Apple Intelligence is also expanding to encompass new regions and languages, including French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (simplified). Additionally, the Visual Intelligence feature will be available for older iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models.

Ambient Music Controls and New Apps

The update includes Ambient Music Controls, offering modes such as Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing, each triggering a specific user-selected playlist. New apps and updates will be introduced, such as a Food section in News+ containing curated articles and recipes, as well as the Vision Pro app for Vision Pro owners to explore XR content and queue it for download.

Other Release Candidates

Besides iOS 18.4, developers can also access release candidates for iPadOS 18.4, macOS 15.4, tvOS 18.4, and visionOS 2.4.
