Apple introduces the iPhone 16e, a new model that replaces the iPhone SE

Apple has recently released the new iPhone 16e, which replaces the affordable SE line. This choice has raised some controversy as the new device is neither as compact nor as affordable as its predecessor.

The iPhone 16e is marketed as the first of many “economical” iPhones, offering the core Apple experience to a wider audience. This includes a durable design, top performance, excellent security and communication, as well as Apple Intelligence.

Despite the disappointment of not seeing a revamped iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 16e closely resembles the iPhone 13 in size and design. It features a 6.1-inch 60Hz OLED screen with Ceramic Shield, as well as the extra large FaceID notch.

While the iPhone 16e borrows some features from the iPhone 13, it also brings some new additions. These include a USB-C port for charging, an Action key, Apple’s latest A18 chip with 8GB of RAM, and Apple’s first in-house C1 modem for improved battery efficiency and network coverage.

However, users can only choose between black or white color options for the iPhone 16e, and it lacks MagSafe tech introduced with the iPhone 12. Wireless charging support is available but without the same magnetic attachment functionality.

Another notable difference is that the iPhone 16e features a single 48MP rear camera with 2x lossless zoom, which may have a smaller sensor than the current iPhone 16. The selfie camera remains the same as the iPhone 16, featuring a 12MP unit with AF.

The iPhone 16e boasts a larger-than-average battery of 4,005mAh, promising extended usage compared to its predecessors. Despite expectations for a more compact device, the iPhone 16e stands out as a more affordable alternative, offering essential features and an up-to-date iOS user experience.

Apple iPhone 16e specifications

The iPhone 16e features a body of 146.7×71.5×7.8mm, weighing 167g, with a glass front and back, aluminum frame, and IP68 dust and water resistance. The device also supports Apple Pay.

Its display is a 6.10″ Super Retina XDR OLED with HDR10, 800 nits brightness (HBM), 1200 nits peak brightness, and a resolution of 1170x2532px. The chipset is powered by the Apple A18 (3 nm) with a hexa-core processor and Apple GPU.

The iPhone 16e comes with memory options of 128GB or 256GB or 512GB with 8GB RAM, utilizing NVMe technology. It runs on iOS 18.3.1 and features a rear camera of 48 MP and a front camera with a 12 MP main lens and a SL 3D depth sensor.

Video capture capabilities include 4K recording at various frame rates for both the rear and front cameras. The device is equipped with a 4005mAh battery that supports wired and wireless charging, connectivity options like 5G, eSIM, Wi-Fi 6, and Face ID security.

Overall, the iPhone 16e offers a reliable and familiar Apple experience with its design, display, and iOS features. Users may miss certain features like MagSafe support, but the device aims to deliver a quality smartphone experience at a more affordable price point.

Unboxing Experience of the iPhone 16e

The iPhone 16e is presented in a thin white paper box, containing a braided USB-C cable and a SIM ejection pin. Notably, there is no charger included in the box, but the device is compatible with modern USB-PD adapters for charging purposes.
