Google Photos app: an easier way to access your Locked Folder

The Google Photos app has introduced a new tweak that makes it easier for users to find their Locked Folder. This feature is now more accessible with fewer taps from the “Library” tab. Additionally, Google has relocated the “Utilities” shortcut functions to a different section.

What is the Locked Folder?

As the name suggests, the Locked Folder allows users to store photos and videos that they do not want others to access. Items saved in this folder are not visible in any other section of the app and will not show up in search results. To access the Locked Folder, users must authenticate with a passcode.

Faster access to the Locked Folder

The Locked Folder is now prominently featured in the Google Photos shortcuts section for quicker access. It has replaced the “Utilities” option and is now displayed alongside “Favorites,” “Archive,” and “Trash.” Previously, users had to navigate to the Library tab > Utilities > Organize Your Library to find the Locked Folder. Some users may prefer the old location due to its better concealment of the folder, but the new placement aligns with the web version of Google Photos.

Additionally, the functions that were previously available in “Utilities” can now be accessed by tapping the “+” button next to the user’s profile photo. This reveals two main sections: “Create” (Album, Collage, Highlight video, Cinematic photo, Animation) and “Get photos” (with tools for sharing or importing photos from other sources).

The updated user interface is included in version 6.89 of the Google Photos Android app, which is also available on iOS. Previously, the company had introduced the “Sync” feature for the Locked Folder. This functionality ensures that the Locked Folder content is synchronized across all devices, preventing data loss when switching devices without a backup.
