Nouvelle mise à jour Parallels Desktop 20.2 : l’émulation x86 64 bits pour les puces Apple Silicon!
Parallels Desktop 20.2 Update: 64-bit x86 Emulation for Apple Silicon and More Enhancements
The latest Parallels Desktop 20.2 update has been released, bringing significant improvements to the virtualization tool. One of the key changes in this new version is the introduction of 64-bit x86 emulation for Apple Silicon Macs.
This proprietary emulation engine allows Apple Silicon Macs to run x86_64 virtual machines, enabling compatibility with Windows 10, Windows 11, and Linux. Previously, support for Apple Silicon was limited in Parallels Desktop 16.5, lacking x86 emulation support until now. This new emulation technique also allows testing of 32-bit Windows apps in a native environment.
Enhancements for Linux Users
Linux users will also benefit from the latest update, as it provides an alternative to running Linux virtual machines through Apple’s Rosetta technology. Although there are some limitations, such as initial slow performance depending on hardware and a lack of support for 64-bit operations, 32-bit apps can still be run.
Additionally, the current build lacks USB device support within virtual machines and requires booting via Apple’s version rather than using Parallels Hypervisor.
IT Department Features
For IT departments, Parallels Desktop 20.2 offers Single Sign-On support, enabling easy setup of SSO or license key activation methods. Managed Macs can receive configurations pushed from the Parallels Management Portal, streamlining license management with support for corporate identity providers like Microsoft Entra ID and Okta.
End users can activate using Single Sign-On for corporate email account access. The update also improves Apple Intelligence and Writing Tools support in Windows applications, simplifying access to Writing Tools (Mac) in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint under a context menu.
Pricing and Availability
Parallels Desktop 20.2 is available for a retail price starting at $8.33/month for a standard subscription or $129.99 for a one-time purchase, with a free trial option. If you’ve tested the new version, feel free to share your feedback in the comments.
