Amd introduces a new feature called Variable Graphics Memory for its Radeon Adrenalin Software, targeting Ryzen AI 300 Series CPUs.

What is Variable Graphics Memory?

Variable Graphics Memory is designed for integrated graphics users who need to split RAM between CPU and GPU tasks. This feature allows Ryzen AI 300 Series CPU users to easily adjust the balance between CPU and GPU tasks without having to tweak BIOS settings.

Performance Improvements

AMD’s official release highlights that Variable Graphics Memory can make certain incompatible games playable and significantly improve performance in others, especially when using HYPR-RX. With technologies like AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2, users saw an increase of about 20-30% in FPS in most titles.

A Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 chip running Cyberpunk 2077 at 100 FPS with AFMF 2 at 1080p resolution using a Balanced FSR preset demonstrated a frame rate increase of 78%.

Optimizing Performance

Users are advised to optimize their in-game settings for smooth performance before enabling Frame Generation to avoid input lag. It’s recommended to achieve a stable FPS of 50 before enabling Fluid Motion Frames 2.

Even if users are not interested in Frame Generation or other AMD HYPR-RX features, they can still benefit from using the Variable Graphics Memory feature to improve performance on their Ryzen AI 300 Series device. Enabling this feature has become easier than ever, and it is expected to be a key feature in future Ryzen APUs.
