Trump plans to further limit China’s access to chips

Restricting China’s access to chips

Reports indicate that the Trump administration is considering expanding restrictions on semiconductor chips to limit China’s technological advancements. Trump has already imposed tariffs on foreign-made chips and plans to increase these restrictions.

Trump officials have held discussions with Japan and Dutch counterparts to pressure US allies and companies to stop providing semiconductor equipment to China.

Sanctions on Chinese companies

In addition to semiconductor restrictions, Trump’s team is considering imposing sanctions on Chinese companies like ChangXin Memory Technologies and SMIC. These sanctions could significantly impact Huawei’s chipset development.

The report does not specify when these new regulations will be implemented, as Trump is still appointing key federal positions, and it is uncertain if US allies will cooperate with these policies.
