Windows 11: Nouvelle fonctionnalité Recall fonctionne sans NPU puissant
Windows 11’s new Recall feature has sparked controversy, as developer on Twitter reveals that it doesn’t require a powerful NPU. This feature allows for automated screen captures and text search, functions already feasible on modern hardware. The question remains whether Recall will perform as efficiently without an NPU.
Development of Recall on Arm64 Hardware
A developer has shown progress enabling Recall on current Arm64 hardware, without the need for high-end NPU. However, the feature should still be able to leverage a powerful NPU if available.
Availability on Intel/AMD CPUs
The developer claims that Recall should also work on x86-64 CPUs from Intel and AMD, suggesting that these features are not as reliant on AI hardware as initially thought.
Restrictions in Windows 11 Features
Microsoft’s limitations on these AI-driven features raise questions, especially since existing consumer GPUs from AMD and Nvidia already have AI cores. The need for AI upscaling hardware in features like Automatic Super Resolution is debatable, as earlier versions from AMD and Intel did not require it.
Artificial Limitations in Windows 11
It seems that Microsoft may be imposing artificial limitations on Windows 11 to showcase its “AI PC” advancements. Similar restrictions were seen with the implementation of Auto HDR, which was initially tested in Windows 10 preview builds before being removed from the older OS.
Ethical and Environmental Concerns
Aside from technical considerations, the excessive saturation of AI technology raises ethical and environmental concerns, particularly in generative AI applications.
